Their mission is to “train and prepare students for a career in contemporary representational painting.” While attending KAFA, he continues to paint in his studio in Appleton, work on commissioned projects and paint outside (plein air). Artist Series Cont.- SESSION #3 Tlazo Artist Series Presents Jim StahlAs the final artist in this winter’s (and spring!) Tlazo Artist Series, Caffé Tlazo will be featuring Minnesota artist, Jim Stahl. Stop on by Algoma, Sunday May 17th from 8am to 2pm, and after enjoying a nice walk by the lake or exploring the town come visit with a multi-talented artist over coffee or lunch. Jim Stahl hails from our friendly neighbor to the west, Minnesota, but has attended the University of Wisconsin-Superior and The Rocky Mountain School of Art in Denver, Colorado. After developing kidney cancer at the age of fifty, Jim re-evaluated his life and found that it was time to do what inspired him his whole life, art. At first focusing on portraiture, Jim quickly found a passion for wildlife art, which springs, from his love for animals developed in the family kennel at a young age. Stahl uses a difficult technique of drawing pastels on black paper to create wildlife, seasonal and fantasy art. Jim has illustrated the children’s book, The Tiny String of Pearls – Red. Jim’s current children’s book Wonder in the Woods, is both written and illustrated by Him. Jim introduces Mother Nature’s Children, The Harmon’s to the world through this first in a series of colorful children’s books. A portion of every book sold will go to support literacy, creativity and health programs for children. This is an important issue for Jim Stahl who spends a large portion of his time teaching workshops for local elementary schools. On Sunday May 17th from 8am to 2pm, come visit breezy Algoma for a relaxing day by the lake, meet Minnesota artist Jim Stahl and enjoy original art on display which will also be available for purchase. The Tlazo Artist Series will return with exciting new artists in October 2009! |
