Hidden hotspot: Caffe Tlazo adds Mediterranean flair to Algoma lakefront

In December 2005, Caffe' Tlazo was selected by Discover Wisconsin as the Restaurant Pick of the Month. Here's what they had to say about us:

"December’s Restaurant Pick of the Month comes from the charming city of Algoma. It’s called Caffe’ Tlazo and it is a truly unique place. Caffe’ Tlazo is located at 607 Fourth Street in an Italianate-style brick building. It’s interior echoes the exterior theme with the use of Italian colors throughout. It definitely has the feel of a Mediterranean/European-style café, and comes complete with a four-season porch. It’s funky and eclectic, but with a touch of home.
Caffe’ Tlazo is known for its Panini sandwiches. Their most popular is the Tocana Panini, which features chicken breast, guacamole, artichokes, provolone cheese, and a spring mix of organic leaf lettuce. Owner Jenelle Glime wanted to create a restaurant where people could really relax and talk, while enjoying delicious and healthy food with vegetarian and organic options, and fair trade coffee and teas. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and is open seven days a week.
Now, I don’t want you to think all of this healthiness is all that the restaurant has. On my first visit I indulged in a Prime Rib sandwich that was one of the best I’ve ever had. I also opted for tea and dessert. Their teas are served loose leaf, where anti-oxidants are the highest, not in the traditional tea bag. Desserts include muffins, scones and biscotti’s made by the Pastry Chef. Congratulations to Caffe’ Tlazo in Algoma with a big nod to owner Janelle Glime, as our December Restaurant Pick of the Month. You do Wisconsin proud."

Here's what one of our guests had to say about his experience at Caffe' Tlazo:

"Great coffee, fresh baked goods, beautiful setting, outdoor dining, live music -- Caffe' Tlazo makes Algoma a destination. The owner has spared no expense to create a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere. The coffee is the best for miles around and the simple fare is first class -- don't forget the free wireless internet. Whether traveling to Algoma or just passing through, you owe it to yourself to stop in for the best coffee in three counties!"

-Todd Lohenry

"Panini's are more Italian than we found in Italy. Love the Ethiopian and other Fair Trade coffees! Live, no cover, music most every Saturday evening."
